Hunter-Killer Zeppelin - 1918 Paris (approx 700th scale)
Built between February & May 2020
I had a vision of something Steampunkesque involving the destruction of a
significant landmark. So when I saw the Heller 650th scale Eiffel Tower
and the 720th scale Mark 1 Zeppelin kits the idea made itself. There is a
slight problem of mismatched scale between the kits which made the
Zeppelin really under-scaled for what I wanted. So the solution (late in
the build) was to add a third larger Zeppelin hull to the two I had
originally. The model also benefitted from a lot of photetch and injection
moulded items originally manufactured for 700th scale ship models.
The base is made from MDF covered with a layer of carvable hobby foam. I
then carved the landscape using Google Earth images of the contemporary
Parisian area overlayed with a World War One cratered-battlefield.
Photos of the original kits are here.
