2. It would be a few more weeks before this
model was completed to the stage of subsequent photo's.... In this photo the
filler is still on around the front canopy join..... |
3. Not the best photo but it
does give a useful impression of the finished Bf109 E4 Trop in 1/48th
scale by Hasegawa. Sadly the cowling won't quite fit
over the engine. |
4. Not a very original
subject - 'red 8' is however a good subject because of the good colour
photo's of this particular machine. The model depicts an open radio
compartment. |
5.
The engine and cockpit are
from the Verlinden Superdetail set which consists of resin and
photo-etched parts. In retrospect this engine should have been satin
black. |

6. The Kit Decals were mostly
used although this had not been the original plan. Mark did purchase the
Cutting Edge decal sheet CED48216 "Desert Eagles". |
7. However, this set had very
poor data on the camouflage scheme therefore only the crosses were used.
Weathering of the model is with Acrylic Black in the panel lines and
with Oil Pastels. |
8. The aircraft depicted is
the Messerschmitt Bf109E-4N
Trop piloted by Lt. Werner Schroer of 2/JG27
based out of Derna, Libya in North Africa 1941. |
9.
The engine is actually
under-scale which appears to be a deliberate decision by Verlinden in
order to make it fit better within the space available. |

10. The green camouflage was airbrushed
through a carefully cut paper mask. However, this yielded a slightly too
hard edge. Next time it should be airbrushed freehand. |
11. The model is finished with
Xtracolor Enamels for the camouflage. Humbrol enamels were used
elsewhere. |
12. This model was built up and completed
through May and June 2004 and was built simultaneously with the
Hobbycraft Sea Fury. |
13. A final view showing the cockpit detail.
The canopy is from a Falcon vac-formed set. This set was designed for
the Tamiya kit and didn't fit the Hasegawa one too well. The Verlinden
framing was also a challenge! |

14. The kit as part of a
specially constructed wooden base with desert diorama. |
15. The Kubelwagen (featured
elsewhere) will eventually join this diorama. |
16. The complete diorama
comes with this Name Plate. |
17.
March 2005 - the addition
of the Kubelwagen and Kettengraftrad starts the making of a diorama. |
