Another one of the four Yak-7's in my collection. This time the Yak-7B although you wouldn't know it from the box top. You have to turn it over to study the underside for the marque's designation. I now have quite a few of these "Soviet Pilots and Ground Personnel" as they came free with this kit and several other ICM and Alanger offerings. Some of the many accessories include:

  • Aeromaster Decals 48-642 Yak 3, 7B, 9 and 9P VVS 1943-47 (5) Yak 3

The box underside depicts Yak-7B of Captain A. Vorozejkin, Commander of 3AE (Squadron), 728IAP (Fighter Regiment), Battle of Kursk, Summer 1943. The Kit Instructions, Decals and Sprues. Sadly the clear plastic parts are packaged with the rest of the plastic. Compare that to an Accurate Miniatures box.

Eduard photoetch set 48-321 for "Jak-7" Eduard photoetch set 48-321 for "Jak-7" Gremlin Models resin Correction Set for the Yak-7 Gremlin Models Yak-7 resin Correction Set
One Eduard photoetch set 48-321 for "Jak-7" in their new-style packaging that is 'one-size-fits-all'. The same Eduard set in their original packaging. There are three of these yielding four in total - one for each of the Yak-7's I have. The Gremlin Models resin Correction Set for the Yak-7. It says that if you use this set then you can make an "average" (early) version Yak-7. It also overcomes serious problems with the kit supplying changes to the front fuselage (engine) cross section and canopy shape.
Gremlin Models Yak-7 resin Correction Set Gremlin Models Yak-7 resin Correction Set Moskit Blast Tubes for 12.7mm UB machine guns for the Yak-7B Moskit Exhaust Pipe sets for Yak-7
The Gremlin set includes the deeper nose oil cooler, new fuselage halves, new canopy and rudder. These resin replacements are far more expensive than the ICM base kit. Moskit Blast Tubes for 12.7mm UB machine guns for the Yak-7B although you will have to display this with the engine panels off to see them. I presently have five of the Moskit Exhaust Pipe sets for Yak-7 but the set also fits the Yak-1 so I would need seven in total if you include my Yak-1 collection.

The Aeromaster set 48-505 "Falcons of the Red Star" Part 1. Obviously Aeromaster and ICM do not agree on the Yak-7B. The kit is 'razorback' (as are all the ICM Yak-7's) whilst the decals show a curious aircraft with cut-down rear fuselage. This problem renders the sole Yak-7B on this sheet quite useless to us. Maybe it is a Yak-9 'early'? However, all is not lost as the sheet has markings for the Yak 1 and 9U.

Aeromaster decal set 48-622 "The Russian are Here!" Part 1 features Yak-1B, 3, 7B, 9P & 9T. Which is good because it too has so-called Yak-7B's that are nothing like ICM's model. This was the first Aeromaster set to use the work of Erik Pilawskii and his "Aircraft and Markings of the Soviet Air Forces of the Great Patriotic War, 1941-45". This means they stopped using FS Colour references and started using "AMT". Apparently the sheet advises you to use the ICM kit with the "Airwaves" Nose. Obviously the two Yak-7B's on this sheet are also 'non-razorback' as the kit depicts. Also useless. Aeromaster's "The Russians are Here!" Part II set include Yak-3, 7B, 9 & 9P. I accidentally purchased two of this set. The first was used on the Eduard Yak-3 Project pictured elsewhere.

For some reason I simply forgot to keep a record of this one in my Decal-bank. So now I have a spare. Much that was said about the set 48-622 can be said here. Having already used this set I know that the technical quality of the decal is second to none. The set references Erik Pilawskii and doesn't use those spurious FS colour numbers any more. The decal sheet itself. I thought it looked familiar.
