I wanted to emulate (somewhat) the
flying Chinese Junk that appears in the movie "The Fifth Element". I had
also seen similar concepts in some sci fi art and thought it would be a fun
steam-punk-type build. The Aoshima model was tracked down after a long time
searching for anything suitable.
purchased the Aoshima Chinese Junk in July 2018 after being
disappointed in the Glencoe Explorers Chinese Junk. I found
nothing on the internet to warn me just how tiny the Glencoe kit
is (approx 1/700th scale). All told the hull is about 2 inches long despite some web
sites selling this as a 1/72nd scale kit! You have been warned.
I would believe it if some one told me the Glencoe kits were
from a Christmas cracker or given away in cereal boxes. Not that
the Aoshima Junk is much better.
The Aoshima Junk has no stated scale (it is approx 1/350th
scale) but comes in a nice
big box from which you would have expected a hull about 9 inches
long or more. In fact this kit is also tiny and entirely dwarved
by the box it is in. The hull length barely scrapes in at 5
inches long (13cm).
