Fans of the 1995 Judge Dredd
movie starring Sylvester Stallone will be familiar with this MRC 1/9th scale
"ABC Warrior" robot.
I had seen a few pictures on the internet but was not originally interested
in it. However I was looking to build a derelict robot in a washed-up
coastal setting. So the Dredd Warrior Robot was the closest match to what I
had in my imagination. I wanted to play with water effects in a really small
scale and supply the smallest possible ocean-going liner to provide a sense
of the enormous scale of the rusting robot.
I bought the kit off EBay in July 2018. It came from Thailand
and arrived in a small box tied up with string. The kit parts
come in a plastic bag. However the instruction sheet is a
nightmare. This is a limited run kit and the instructions show
it was originally by MRC (Model Rectifier Corporation). The
original kit instructions have been photocopied, then
photocopies made of the photocopies, and so on and so on...
Until the Xth generation copies that come with this kit are
practically unreadable. MRC originally delivery this as a vinyl
kit although the parts look resin to me. Fortunately the diorama
I plan for this does not require me to glue this together with
any degreee of movie-accuracy and most of it will be buried
under sand dunes
Judging from the
lack of hits on Google it has been a very, very long time since
MRC released the original of this kit. Given the date of the movie this may
have been produced in the late 1990's only before going off
catalogue. We wonder if they are aware that a producer in
Thailand is brazenly ripping off their kits?
